Hello!
I am planning to launch a "vanilla+" server for a private group of friends, all adults wanting to grind heavily. We will likely not surpass 15 people online at a time, and I can trust that nobody will cheat. Whitelist will be on. I intend to use CoreProtect as a precaution however I am open to alternatives if there's a new best practice. I have ran multiple servers similar to this one in the past.
My current plan is to run on Paper 1.21.10
The server will be on an absolutely overkill personal server of mine, so performance isn't a massive concern. However, I am limiting Datapacks to primarily be world-gen related to try preventing them from nuking performance.
Currently I plan to use the following plugins:
- BlueMap (Web map)
- Carbon (Chat formatting)
- FastAsyncWorldEdit (Allow me to fix generation errors)
- Chunky (World pregen)
- HexNicks (Nicknames)
- TAB (Tab list)
- Geyser (Bedrock Crossplay)
- DiscordSRV (Discord chat link)
- mclo.gs (Easier fixing errors)
- Freedom Chat (Disable chat report)
- Sleeper (Lower sleep % threshhold)
- PLAN (I love data!)
I am currently deciding between Terra and Terralith for my world gen.
I am looking for plugin suggestions similar to:
- Slimefun
- BreweryX
- CrazyEnchantments
- mcMMO (maybe ValhallaMMO?)
- TheDungeons (Very tentative)
I plan on using the following datapacks:
- Dungeons and Taverns
- Explorify
- Structory
- Structory: Towers
- Tidal Towns
- Trek?
- Amplified Nether
- Hopo Better Mineshaft
- Ships
- BlazeandCave's Advancement Pack
If you have any recommendations for plugins/datapacks, whether its to remove, add, or replace -- please let me know. I appreciate you reading all this!

One of my big goals is to have anything needed be server-side (hence why Paper), however if people have recommendations for a fabric setup, I'm ears, and can force people to use a pack.

Alright there's lots here (I also run Paper 1.21.10), will try to respond point by point
I'm running a similar vanilla+ server for my friends/discord
CoreProtect: Unless you don't mind subscribing to their Patreon (or even compiling the code and building the plugin yourself), I would recommend Prism which is the go-to alternative since it's free, open source and actively maintained
Community editions of CoreProtect will likely only be available once per year (going by the trend), and it seems you want to be up to date as much as possible, so that would put it out of the question

+1 for all of these plugins although I don't know HexNicks or Sleeper
I'd also recommend squaremap to run alongside BlueMap (3D map). It's super fast and a 2D alternative, barely takes up any space and renders in no time. Super useful for quick map lookup and helps people better with low end hardware and poor connections

I think Terra is more of a world gen/config API than a world gen datapack in itself
I'd go with Terralith for sure if you want lots of nice biomes and a fantasy feel. I paired it up with Terratonic for massive mountain ranges and other things. Terratonic is just the Terralith-compatible datapack version of Tectonic. You load it on top of Terralith

mcMMO: The best and most modern alternative is AuraSkills. ValhallaMMO is pretty nice too, but if you want to stick to vanilla I'd avoid it, because it completely overhauls gearing and crafting. Diamond gear starts out very weak until you grind and level up blacksmithing to make more powerful Diamond gear. The same applies for your crafting skill for making stuff. It depends if your players like to grind and take a lot of time to hit good gear or if they just want familiar vanilla mechanics (quick diamond gear and then netherite)
I made the mistake of adding Dungeons and Taverns to my Paper server, do not do that
While it adds cool structures that I enjoy like the taverns etc, it's not compatible with Paper and the dev says it should not be used on Paper. It's broken when it comes to enchants, loot etc from dungeons

Structory is very nice, I'd definitely go for it. For the Nether, Amplified Nether would be great too because I believe it contains no datapack functions (unlike Incedium which contains thousands - avoid)
Terralith also contains like 4 functions which shouldn't be an issue

Similar to CrazyEnchantments: ExcellentEnchants, it should be updated for 1.21.10 soon
Some probably final notes:

Yeah, I typically combine Amplified Nether with whichever up-to-date version of Incendium world gen only pack.

I did give that a look prior to posting -- good idea with Origins!
@Jay Yeah, I typically combine Amplified Nether with whichever up-to-date version of Incendium world gen only pack.
Asiatic Lion
Do you mean Incendium Biomes Only?
@Asiatic Lion Do you mean Incendium Biomes Only?
JayOP
Yeah probably
Asiatic Lion
You can use that with Incendium (instead of Amplified Nether) to get Incendium but without all the laggy structures, entities, bosses etc
I was thinking between that or Amplified Nether
However
Incendium Biomes Only is maintained by a third party (not Stardust Labs) and does not seem to be updated to 1.21.10 yet, not sure if 1.21.8 works or when it will be
so Amplified Nether might be a better bet with future updates since it's always updated by Stardust Labs along with all their packs
A general recommendation I'd give regarding world gen datapacks is the less the better because they can hold you back from updating to new versions in the future (unless consistently and actively maintained like the Stardust ones), and make sure they contain little to ideally no functions (mcfunction files) to avoid any lag

I will probably not be updating the server often, if at all.
I do not imagine it is active in 6 months.
Asiatic Lion
Ah fair enough, if it's just a seasonal thing (including future resets) then that's no issue

I've used both in the past and love them both -- Terra has a default config generation pack available.
Polar bear
if you want better overworld terrain try Lithosphere
be warned though, it can be intensive at times
I use this [plugin](https://github.com/xCykrix/DynamicLights) for all my vanilla plus servers (basically server side dynamic lighting). +1 on ExcellentEnchants, it is a great plugin but if you think pvp will be widely utilized I would recommend going through and manually balancing a lot of the enchants as some are way to op. Both of these plugins are not yet updated to 1.21.10.
As for sleeper if your just using it for the sleep percentage feature there is already a gamerule in vanilla for that exact purpose. I believe it is
Another plugin I can highly recommend, especially for servers with DiscordSRV, is [ChatImage](https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/chatimage-send-images-in-minecraft.95842/). It allows images sent from discord to be displayed in mc (on 1.21.10 it can even do gifs).
I don't have enough time to right now to describe the rest in detail so I will just list them out.
https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/autoupdategeyser.109632/ (self explanatory)
https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/autoviaupdater-recoded.109331/ (self explanatory)
https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/ore-control-『1-18-1-20-4』.63621/ (I often use to increase diamond rarity)
https://luckperms.net/ (necessary on any server with plugins)
https://github.com/Jikoo/OpenInv (comes in handy sometimes)
https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/schneckenhaus.116315/ (not really vanilla+ but can be fun [huge performance hog][would recommend making the recipe very expensive])
https://modrinth.com/plugin/raknetify (needs velocity and a client mod but
https://modrinth.com/plugin/blockprot (kinda fun to have [I would limit the amount of lockable blocks though and does not fully support 1.21.10 yet])
https://modrinth.com/plugin/drqads-xaero-force-disabler/versions (nerfs client side minimaps if you are against them)
https://github.com/GeyserMC/Hurricane (will have to build yourself [not sure if works on 1.21.10])

Oh I forgot [this](https://modrinth.com/plugin/geyser-recipe-fix) is needed to allow bedrock player to use custom enchants. (does not support 1.21.10 yet either)
