Hey, forgot all about that I posted this, in a previous string of questions I messed with the packet maximum and (probably) broke it so that next to no packets were coming through
After returning those settings to default it was resolved and I could place normally again
I had assumed it was related to viaversion but that wasn't the case, thanks for the reply though :)
