How well would a Minecraft java server run on the M5 chip?

I heard that it has the fastest single core performance and fastest single thread performance (based on passmark)
Would it run better on the M5 rather than an equivalently priced X86 chip?

I mean what's the use case here?
Not many server hosts offer m silicon, so it'd have to be a homelab surely?
Also the m5 is currently on macbooks only, so uh not well?
since it's on battery
speaking from experience its a good way to find out what your macbook fans sound like

I mean they definitely going to have it on the mac mini for sure, soon at-least.

A server that holds over 1000 people on one world, one core dedicated for a survival map.

I don’t think any do, for a good reason (it’s expensive upfront, non upgradable and has no config options that remove its internal SSD)

for that many people one core is nowhere near enough
and you'd need universespigot or folia or something

I thought u-spigot only was able to use one core (more specifically, it uses one main thread)

We haven’t reached 1k people on a playable survival server even with a 9950x (at least not to my knowledge)
So you are probably looking to optimize the shit out of the game by stripping mechanics down to an absolute bare minimum

pretty sure uspigot's done it?
or at least near that number
maybe it was like high 800s or something
anyways @Aquadateh<3 where tf are you planning on getting 1000 players from?
seems like putting the space program before the wheel here

No its a theoretical xd
I was going to ask how would the M4 Max chip would perform but then i just saw that the M5 came out (kinda).

Also, the assumption that minecraft uses only one thread is incorrect. While the server has a single main thread, many operations are done off the main thread. Stuff like chunk gen (iirc), chat messages, etc
High single core matters, but you need more than one thread anyways
also most complicated plugins will do stuff off the main thread (IO, DB calls, or expensive computation)

@Nebelung out of curiosity what is the peak playercount achieved on a universespigot server which could be described as a playable survival server (with most mechanics still enabled)?

I'm super interested in the capabilities when the m5 mini comes out. $499 (student price) is less than I've spent on my other server parts and the m5 single core performance blows them off of the planet.

And its super power efficient for the power they have.
Playable playable, 500-550
But we breaking that limit soon!
