ok so. when you port forward. you can connect to the server using the ip address + port. right. correct. yes? yay? thats how they work?
European pilchardOP
this is probably rlly stupid sorry
@Tamz if its not 25565, yes they need ip:port

if you are port forwarding 25565, just ip

thank you ok!! umm. and how would you put mods onto a self hosted server?
is there a specific management program you can use or?
are you attempting to install a modpack?
European pilchardOP
a self made modpack
you’d need to first make it into a serverpack
here’s a tool for it
European pilchardOP
okay!! does this like.. give a file or will directly link to the server?
/ how to update to the self hosted server

If you are lazy and all of your mods are in a .jar format, simply upload them into the mods folder of your server!
It might look something like this

No worries, we exist for a reason :KEKW:
@European pilchard what server software are you using btw? Just to get a baseline context
Is it forge? Fabric, neoforge, or something else?
@Bluetick Coonhound Is it forge? Fabric, neoforge, or something else?
European pilchardOP
neoforge, 1.21.1

:despair: yikes

Are you looking for alternatives perhaps? I never had great experience with neoforge and would personally consider it janky
European pilchardOP
im using neoforge due to mod compatibilities! all mods r fine w neoforge, but some r forge/fabric exclusive
Bluetick Coonhound
What mods specifically? AFAIK most mods have decent fabric support

i should mention (im) not setting up the server as i unfortunately cannot umm. Port forward! but my dad has set up servers so hes doing it for me  but hes never done port forwarding before (i told him its easy) or modded servers
umm. im on mobile rn but let me try a thing

There is a thing you can use called tunneling.

You can use free services like playit.gg

Or host your own tunneling server in the cloud (a requirement) if your dad has a vps in something like aws using a software called “fast reverse proxy”
