How playable would a 3-4 simulation distance be?

I am considering running a Big Globe server to shake things up with my friends, but since the world height is increased (-1024 to 1024, but on average it’s only -1024 to like sea level of 10) I have to be careful about how many chunks are simulated and sent to the client. The biggest obstacle is bandwidth, so I can really only have a render distance of 3-4. Simulation distance could be higher but I don’t even know if that would be helpful except for maybe automatic farms as the player wouldn’t see synced chunks past the render distance. So basically my question is: would you consider a 3-4 chunk simulation distance to be playable? I will be including Bobby and Distant Horizons in the client modpack by default, and in my testing those combined make up for the limited render distance, but my biggest concern is whether the shorter sim distance will too negatively affect the experience. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

if player's connection is not able to keep up, they can reduce their view distance for themselves
you can set it on the server as high as your server can handle sending
