I'm looking at hosting a small server between a few friends, 5-8 people. It will be modded, not heavenly but still have mods. I was considering a Optiplex 7050, with i5-8500T and 16gb ram as the can be found for cheep but was wondering if it would be enough?

If you're still wondering I recommend checking #buyer-chat and just going for the cheapest option there because if you're doing modded then a CPU like that wont perform well on the latest version and doing modded.
Assuming your server costs 150$, shipping fees and you got to run it 24/7 which increases your electricity it's not really worth it versus just having a better CPU host with all the benefits and hassle such as your routing being unoptimized for others so they'd have potential latency issues.
The budget host/plans from #service-providers are an option. I cant give you more advice without mods or version etc

I was mainly asking cause we were having performance issues with the current server however the cpu that’s running is better. The ram for the server has been increased so hopefully that fixes it, though now it has started randomly kicking everyone every few mins

Maybe people could help you with that if you were to provide a spark report
