im hosting a quilt/fabric (probably quilt but its not 100% decided yet) server for a few friends and i wanted to know the best way to host it. its gonna run on a ubuntu server vm (via proxmox) but once i have that setup, im not too familliar with the best way to run a server then.
i know i could run it with docker or like a systemd script, but wanted to check if theres an ideal way.
its unlikely il run more than 1 server (and likely no proxy either).
thanks!

If you are planning to run the server for a long time, I would recommend Pterodactyl to make the process easy

i ended up using a docker container cos i know it really well and cos im more comfortable with the CLI than pterodactyl, but thank you anyway (and also makes my setups nice and portable for the future)
i expect pterodactyl is probably better for most people lol
also i dont intend to run it longer than like a few months at most

There’s no reason not to use Pterodactyl

Avoid Quilt like the plague. It was made for politics reasons with a rocky as fuck founding base, Fabric is more stable, more supported, and less driven by literal spite.
Never mind that the Quilt devs and community are known to be... fairly questionable. There are several Reddit threads you can look through for the history, but generally I don't trust it to exist.
