I start the pregeneration task and my game just freezes and crashes after a few minutes. I'm using 1.18.1. No errors in client console.

why exactly are you pregening single player? 
not saying its bad but its not really required since mc handles singleplayer chunk generation pretty well without pregen

i couldn't get it properly working on the server
just a whole ton of errors
was simpler on singleplayer
can you share latest.log from your client when it crashes?
whats the specs on your pc btw

along with how much ram are you allocating to the modpack?
by default modrinth allocates 2gb
by default modrinth allocates 2gb
if its on the default, problem solved. OOM errors, so increase ram a decent amount (50% of your total ram capacity) and itll be fine

alr ill try allocating 9
inside ur f3 menu, on the top right side you can see the ram allocation go up. if its going up really fast, its best to do it on the server then pc
