hi guys, i am hosting a paper minecraft server using pterodactyl wih aikar's flags on my vds with the following specs:
4 core xeon e5-2699 v4 running at 2.2ghz
8gb ram

and i am experiencing very slow chunk loading (players can walk like 2x the speed of the chunk generation) and overall lag (when like more than 2 people are playing).

i am not really knowledgeable on minecraft servers so i dont really know but;
is the 4x xeon e5-2699 v4 enough for a paper server with 5-10 people?
is 8gb ram enough?
or are there settings i should tweak?
i can provide more details about my setup if you wanna know.

The Xeon E5-2699 v4 isn’t exactly good for game servers
That is probably why you are having any amount of lag

i cant afford a more expensive vds lol
this is the cheapest i could find
a server with a 4 core ryzen 9 5950x and the same amount of ram is like triple the price

Just get a normal trusted mc host

Get a cheap vps/free oracle vps for the rest
And just get a normal mc host for the mc server
