Re-enable recipe unlocking

I am using the vane plugin suite (https://oddlama.github.io/vane/) which includes an option to give all recipes to players on first login. It is enabled by default, and I forgot to turn it off, so when my friends joined the received all recipes.

I wanted to revert that, so this is what I have tried so far:

- changed this in the vane-trifles plugin config.yml:

recipe_unlock:
  # Unlocks all recipes when a player joins.
  # Default: true
  enabled: false

- restarted server
- removed all unlocked recipes from players with /recipe take @a *
- recipes are correctly removed, players have 0 recipes now
- however, I noticed that now players can't unlock recipes again when getting blocks, only when crafting the actual item
- tried editing the .dat for each player manually, deleting the recipes entry
- restarted server
- issue persists

What can I do to simply re-enable recipe unlock/discovery?
