Will being connected to a Wi-fi EXTENDER work for server hosting?

I've gone through the process of creating a server using Java (that's on the Minecraft website), but my friend isn't able to join me. I'm sure I've done everything correct. I've heard of people putting down their firewall but theres no chance I'm doing that. If this won't work what are some other ways I can make a server?
A wifi extender? No, repeaters add latency and perform like shit. Use a hardwired access point or EoP instead.

As for firewall? Just allow specific ports through and be careful, don’t drop the entire firewall, nobody smart does that.
So long as you specifically only direct traffic to and from the server itself you will be fine to do firewall rules and port forwarding, just about everyone and every host on earth does that, it’s very well trodden ground and works fine.

if youre just trying to get your friend to join you and you normally have decent ping, the extender probably wont cause any issues
if your friend cant join you its probably firewall related
Havent used it myself so I cant personally vouch for it, but ive heard people have success with https://playit.gg

Would recommend Ethernet or proper access points
Like what mrmcyeet said, extenders are shit
For a bit of detail as to why extenders are shit, what they do is pick up a wifi signal and then rebroadcast it so it has more range.
If you badly position an extender, say behind a metal wall or too far away, you'll get issues like packet loss and unreliable connection before the signal hits the booster, then everything the booster broadcasts to has signal degradation.

Optimally and at very best they're worse than connecting an access point through EoP.
Who says eop instead of Poe :despair:

They're different techs. :p
Usually people can't or won't do PoE in their house, it's better, but they won't do it.
So for most you can get away with EoP.
Never mind that most people don't have a PoE enabled device since it's ISP stock and fuck knows they won't give us nice things.
Eh Poe injectors are a thing, for cheap
But yeah those isp stock thingies most likely doesn’t take poe
Still means you have to run a big ass cable most of the time, for most they don't want to do that.
EoP does solve that, makes the problem less of a 'this will make my house ugly' and more of a 'wow it just worked'.
I will say though, if you can get away with abusing PoE, do so. :Kek:
Most of the time keeping a dedicated machine (if op is able to) and then plugging a patch cable into it and the router will be more than good. Just keep the pc besides the router and there won’t be cable mess
Or that, yeah.
Shove a mini pc into your network cabinet or drawer or whatever it is
I've seen some people make these stubby 1U servers and put the nice Noctua fans in them so they can just sit in the kitchen and look like a mystery box.
Tuck it up against a wall next to ethernet.
Oh well, the AP mesh solution also requires wires everywhere, even if poe.
Yeee.
Either EoP or just run cables in the roof.
We love some roof cables.
I shove mine under the carpet
