Playing on the server appear to have massive lag spikes, where it runs fine for a few seconds and then suddenly have massive lag for another few seconds. Spark report did not show any issues with TPS/MSPT, and traceroute to the TCPShield address from both ends seemed fine as well. (Post-resolution edit for added clarification: mtr showed some packet loss on the VPS end, but didn’t seem as frequent as the occurrence of the lag, reporting at 5% instead of the seemingly half the time the lag has been occurring.)
Is there any reason that would potentially cause this? I know this isn't an issue on my side, as my friend from Canada is also having similar trouble. More info within the thread.

Run an mtr, traceroutes dont give much info
with ping drops/increases

running mtr rn
it does have some packet loss but significantly less than what's happening when playing on the server. Do you want me to keep it running when actively on the server?

yes keep it active when players are on and experience some ping issues

Part of the lag spikes do seem to correspond to the bursts of packet loss, but sometimes the mobs are frozen yet mtr keeps coming with dots anyways

these others might just be my end instead. I guess I should bring the mtr to the vps hosting service customer support?

could be an issue with their networking
Polish Tatra SheepdogOP
The connection somehow improved a few hours ago with packet loss below 1% and the issue hasn’t occurred in the three hours or so of gameplay. Guess it was indeed mostly the network’s issue then. Ping went down to <300ms as expected.

I’ll wait for the support ticket with them to update and mark a solution once the situation’s resolved, but for now “server side packet loss” would explain the issue fairly well

Alright support kinda has gone quiet on me and they didn’t mention anything being done except telling me to try again and maybe turn it off and on again if trying again didn’t fix the issue. I suppose <1% packet loss is an acceptable level.

Cause: Server-side packet loss
