Specs of the above Link:

* AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U
* 16GB DDR4 Ram 3200 Mhz (upgradeable to 64GB)
* 500 GB NVMe SSD (full sized 2280 NVMe drive)

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with a CPU of this type? My use case is going to be self hosting for ME ONLY, and MAYBE my son later down the road. Looking to play heavy mod packs like ATM9 and SF5. I'm trying to stick with the NUC style/Mini PC style PCs as opposed to a large full sized desktop. Also not trying to break the bank, trying to be under $250 USD.

Passmark says the CPU has a single core rating of 2907, though I'm not confident that tells the entire story.

OS wise, the plan is Ubuntu Server for a headless operation to keep as many resources free as possible.

I'm also open to other suggestions if people have them. I've tried searching for cheaper options, but the problem I run into is the CPU doesn't have enough behind it to run these kinds of mod packs, or I find a CPU that does, but the price is way out of what I'm budgeting for.

So self hosted you want by the end of the day right?
Have you checked if you are able to self host?
and is this for a group of friends or public to join

I am 100% able to self host. I actually have a post on the reddit where I worked through setting up a mac mini (late 2014 model) that I currently use as a bedrock server for my son and I (him on ps me on pc) since it doesn't take much to run what bedrock can offer.

The mac mini I have, can run a vanilla Java server but that's about its limit. It absolutely cannot run modded minecraft.
This server is 100% only for me on my own home network. Maybe my son will join with me a few years from now when he's older and gets a pc, but even that is a maybe.

No one from outside my network or home for that matter will be joining this server.
The reason I want this, is because I want to be able to play the large mod packs like ATM9, SF5, Sevtech ages, etc, and place a chunk loade, and the game keep going on the server, instead of everything stopping when I close the game on my gaming pc.
Sounds great then, that mini pc looks good. Has a pretty decent cpu to use. Upgradable ram is nice, storage is enough for a few years of light playing without resetting the world etc
As long as you pregen the server, Optimize the server (lower chunk and view distances a bit) itll run fine :thumb:

Alright. So packs like SF5 run on forge.. which im guessing doesn't support things like spigot or paper? That stuff is am not familiar with.

Im confident in my Linux abilities and server management, but not so much in optimizing and pre genning, while making sure things are compatible with mod packs.
Nope, SF5 is modded and only runs mods
There isnt a real need for plugins on more latest versions of mc packs as they are stable and run fine
I can give you a few guides

My plan is to use Ubuntu server for headless, with webmin and Amp as the server management, since i already have a license from Amp.

The main tool is spark to locate lag, see issues, etc.

Chunky the pregenerator and what not
Chalcid waspOP
Perfect. Thank you for your help.
@Asian black bear we have a amp user, please let them know on hell lol
Chalcid waspOP
Its only going to be used for MC server hosting. Even though Amp offers other game servers.
Amp is a decent panel, but it has its faults. Zach can help explain and its not a show to not make you use it but a more of a "Heads up" on it
Chalcid waspOP
No I appreciate it. The more I can learn the better my experience will be.

Another panel named Pterodactyl offers the same, its mainly just using game eggs

Fortunately I went with the 10 dollar license so if its bad its not a bid deal
