Hosting a "one-shot" server for April Fool's day - any suggestions?

I'm hosting an event on AFD for my server (not at all Minecraft related). Our server is HUGE, but the ratio of active:total isn't the best, so I have no idea what the turnout will be. (hoping it can be 20-50 or more) The entire premise of the event is to be a secret until the day-of so it's a surprise as to what you're playing. My vision is to create a one-shot, anarchy-lite free-for-all server where the goal is to be the first to defeat the ender dragon — winner(s) will receive a role in our server and maybe some other prizes we haven't determined yet.

Any suggestions for plugins, settings, etc I can install or configure to make this a good combination of competitive, maybe a little silly, but still fun at the end of the day? I've never hosted or played on anarchy servers, and I know that they have a reputation for being the opposite of fun, mostly. I just want competition to be encouraged, and a little bit of chaos. I don't want it to be completely ruined by cheaters or something (though I have strong doubts that would even happen), but...

The only thing I'm considering is making it so that spawning, especially for new players, isn't a death sentence. I could simply increase the spawn protection to a much larger value, but I'm open to any alternatives — such as a plugin that spreads spawns out over a random radius.

Besides that, I'm open to suggestions for anything else. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful, for players and me alike - but I love overengineering solutions :)
