One of my mods has an issue that would be balanced by giving players a mob every time they respawn. How do I add a chicken spawn egg to their inventories

yes
Best option: very simple custom mod. It would be almost literally 1 line of (non boilerplate) code
Other than that you'd probably still be best off finding a kit plugin that allows you to get a kit everytime you die

maybe use a plugin called ItemJoin, is free and has a nice gui to set it up
