Best Value Tunneling - Why would I NOT choose playit.gg?

Hi friends! I've been investigating ways to secure my network better than a static IP with port forwarding. No shame please ๐Ÿ˜„ I've looked for a few months at a reasonable reverse proxy option, the best I'd found before yesterday that would give me an IPv4 with it is an adequate VPS near me for ~$4/mo.
Having somehow missed this until yesterday, I then stumbled upon playit.gg. Playit as far as I can tell does what I need. I get a little reserved address space, more available if needed, that I can associate with my own domain. I get a secure tunnel from a datacenter grade network, in a region of my choosing, to my self-hosted servers. There are optional firewall rules and I assume DDoS protection as well. Am I missing anything that makes this a less than excellent option? Are there alternatives that provide reasonable value? Most of the professional tunnel services seem even more expensive than a VPS since they assume less expertise on the customers part.
@Connecticut Warbler few things, playit isnt exactly known to have the best network, actually the opposite, ddos protection isnt very good either (even tho their upstreams seem pretty good)

Is that also true for the paid account? I have a lot more regional options and I'm already interested in using my own domain anyway.

havent tried a playit.gg paid account

Owner of playit.gg here. We donโ€™t currently consider ourselves a ddos protection service but working to get there. Iโ€™d recommend giving the free version a try. We serve a global audience and experiences can vary dramatically based on if youโ€™re close to one of our datacenters.

Dude, doesn't get much better than having the service owner drop by! Well I'm a big fan of what you are offering. I've already bought your annual package so I could use a custom domain. I'm hoping DDoS doesn't become an issue, do you recommend having a service in front of yours if that comes up?
ThaiOP
You know, I'm getting too worked up about the DDoS thing for where I'm at with populations right now ๐Ÿ˜„
My main thing at this point is that now that I have a secure means into my network again I need to get AMP setup the way I want on the two servers I bought for that.
:NOOO: amp lol

Thatโ€™s an option. We block lots of common ddos attacks that could take down a vps but in general we forward all valid protocol traffic. You could have two tunnels on playit and add an extra service in front of one of them for extra protection. If you get a really large attack you could disable your unprotected tunnel and direct users to use the protected tunnel. In general, I think an extra hop would just add more latency without too much benefit.

at that size you wouldnt be selfhosting

I have noticed a slight bias against AMP around here ๐Ÿ˜‰
Is this a based on recent experience thing or are there significant reasons I should use something else?

In a sentence, it's a mediocre paid panel with one (dare I say incompetent?) maintainer.

It is consistently lacking in quality and functionality. Part of which is because there is little to no testing between pushing updates to prod and it shows: Bugs, offline servers, spaghetti code

You cannot reuse ports even when they are on completely different IPs (so they should be usable).
But, if you there's something already running on a port that isn't within AMP, then no problem, it will take over that port (I know people who had this happen to a MONGODB install because some Steam game used the same default port. This exposed their mongo install to the internet :MonkaS: )

More or less, it's lacking
