I'm in a unique situation where im trying to figure out how best to structure a self hosted server network built for 500+ people with a range of modded and vanilla subservers. I cannot port forward (I realize that's not ideal) and I'm trying to best research how to use all this networking shenanigans. Networking outside of the LAN is not my strong suit and It's been a struggle to grasp on how each of these services or programs direct packets. Other than networking outside of lan I'm very tech savvy, I'm just looking into the only field that has been truly tough to understand and/or find good hard documentation on the functions.

Playit is not made for what you want
And you and your players wont have a good experience
it wont support 500+ players. at that point you need to get a Neoprotect tunnel or Tcpshield protection

500 players shouldnt be selfhosted either tbh
:Wokege: debateable
ik someone who self hosts 100+ player modpacks

Dedi, mc host, vps or colo

Doesnt make it a good idea

You have tons of downsides and no real upsides
selfhost

network

Mirroring sentiments already in this thread, this is a terrible idea.

With 500+ people you better have at minimum 2.5G of bandwidth. Thats a lot of people

Ignore the other factors. I'm trying to learn how all this shit works
I'm not here to get lectured about how my shit isnt gonna work by people who know more than me when I'm trying to learn about how it works
hey you gave us the numbers, we gave you the truth. if you didnt expect that, dont expect truthful help

I'm asking for information not reddit banter

It's mostly theoretical at this point but I have about a gigabit to work with. And numbers are fluid so it's not like anything is required yet other than A. No port forwarding and B. I've got a gigabit
Sorry I'm being a bit of an ass

I'd advise grabbing neoprotect to tunnel or some AWS e2 instance and use [FRP](https://github.com/fatedier/frp) to tunnel through that
2 solutions to open your server to the world without opening your network
neoprotect comes with DDoS prot and the AWS instance is if you want to grab a tunnel for like $1/mo
If this is purely theoretical and you're trying to learn I recommend the latter.
