@Gończy Polski Are you home hosting or using a provider?

home hosting
are you comfortable operating entirely from the command line?

im completely new to linux so as long as there are clear instructions then yeah
okay
Reason I ask is to decide whether to get you a linux distribution with a graphical UI (which takes additional resources) or without.
If you're cool with learning some new stuff, then Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS is the one with the best documentation and support.
one moment
I'll get a link
that should default you to this

Once installed, there are 3 ways to interact with your server:
1. Keyboard and mouse sitting in front of it
2. SSH, a remote connection to it from another computer (usually on the same network)
3. a web based panel designed for game server management

What would you like to pursue?

which is the most convenient?
#3, but it takes extra steps to get it set up and running so that it's useful, and as with any new tool, convenience increases as you gain experience with using it

i think i can do 1 or 2
okay, so with #1 you obviously need a monitor. you also have to be AT the computer if you want to do things like install new software, restart a server, or whatever, and you will have to use commands to do things like downloading mods or plugins..

#2 means you can do that from the comfort of your own computer, with your normal desk and chair, and with the convenience of your normal computer with web browser, but it takes a couple extra steps to set up (not that many). you still have to use the command line to turn on or restart a server, or to download mods, but at least you can copy URLs out of browsers and paste into the terminal, rather than having to manually type things as in #1.

#3 would mean you log into a website hosted at home and do things through that, including turning on and restarting game servers, etc.
#1 requires the least setup, but is least convenient once it's ready
#3 requires the most setup, but is the most convenient
and #2 is a middle choice

if i setup 2 i would still be able to do 1 right
ofc
and doing #3 can always be added later
Gończy PolskiOP
ok
these are incrmental improvements, essentially
