hey everyone, so this is a rather niche one I cant find anything on so this is just me poking around for answers
we host with apex hosting, previously we used our squarespace site's DNS to have our subdomain forward to the ip using an A record. this worked fine until the server renewed and 'MCShield protection' was put onto our server.
in this article (https://apexminecrafthosting.com/mcshield/) they say that if we want this protection (which we would prefer) we have to use the subdomain they provide. however, this means that the A record method we were using would completely bypass this shield as it isnt going through the subdomain they provide. however, in that article they state that 'CNAME reccomended' for making custom domains but also fail to give anything on what they actually mean by this. im fairly new to this DNS stuff and i might be missing something obvious.
so basically tl;dr
is there a CNAME (or otherwise) way to have our custom subdomain (
thanks a bunch ^.^

play.server.net) forward to the apex hosting one (server.mc.gg:1234)? this way we can utilise this protection but also keep our custom subdomainthanks a bunch ^.^

cname + srv record
where is the domain bought
Knopper gallOP
oh wow, is it as simple as that? when i googled that some time ago it said that srv records can only point to A records
Connecticut Warbler
nope they can do cnames aswell
Knopper gallOP
the domain was bought through squarespace
oh brilliant, ill have a look into it 👍
Giant panda
I just xfer'd from them to cloudflare yesterday lol
I had issues using their DNS AND when I tried handing that role over to CF. I said screw 'em and changed registrar

squarespace has been horrible in my experience
all the tutorials use godaddy and i was like 'damn that dns looks so much easier'
@Connecticut Warbler cname + srv record
Knopper gallOP
speakin of which, this is what ive attempted so far but the test subdomain still doesnt seem to be working

the goal is to get test.website.net to go to server.mc.gg with the port theyre making us use now
its way way better

Knopper gallOP
how would i go about that? like transferrance wise
would we have to ditch the whole squarespace entirely or can we just hand off just the dns to cloudflare
