Started server, when I connect from outside of network or over lan as multiplayer, i can't see chat or move.

I started a server (locally in my house). In this case it was GTNH, after running into this issue I've tried with other modpacks and get the same problems.

If i connect to it with a computer on my LAN or from another network like the neighbors, the world area is mostly black, it states my Y location as incorrect, in one case it was -2000 or so, and I can't see any chat messages that I or anyone else sends in chat, although the server does see those chat messages.

Connecting to the server from the same computer where the server is running works fine though, and i can see the other players at spawn location and can see the other players' chat messages. Could this be an issue with ports or something? Unsure of where to investigate from. I read through the server logs and am not getting any errors during the connection process of the players.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

here are a couple screen shots of what it looks like when i log in from a different network or from a different computer on the lan
this one shows -2y, but the character at this moment is actually at like 72y or so

logged in a different time and see it looking like this:

logged in from the same computer as the server is on, i can see that player standing at the spawnpoint

Looks like the client has not been able to receive chunk properly.

Try [Cloudflare Warp](https://one.one.one.one/) on that different network that you are having issue with, see if that fix the issue first.

rgr, i'll try that, thank you

That's the first step to rule out the issue that I am thinking of. Do report back with your findings.

I installed that application on a computer from the other network (neighbor's house) and am still getting the same issue
this is a shot from that computer

Would be some routing issue closer to your machine then. This is self hosted right?
Great black waspOP
yes self hosted

I hope not over wifi or something like that?

i have a computer at home that i don't really use, connected to my internet via ethernet cable, and the server is running on that computer, i followed some guides to get it set up with some router settings too
i had to find this line: server-port=25565 and go to my router to change a setting for that port
from my server.properties file

Yeah look like you got it done right. Since people can connect into the server. This part to troubleshot is gonna be pretty annoying. You will need to run winMTR and see if there are any obvious issue from the outside network to your server.

rgr, i'll do that next (now) might take me a bit to learn how to run it and everything, i'll report when it is up and done though. thank you very much for helping me out with this!
