So I am looking to setup a server for me and some of my friends. We don’t plan to have more than 10 players, but I do want some fabric mods.
I do not mind setting up a panel and whatnot on a VPS, might be worth noting that I do have a spare pc with 16GB Ram and an i5 8th gen but idk how costs compare, does anyone know?
Is it cheaper to setup/rent a VPS, rent a server from a provider or use a spare pc?

Personal dedicated server will 100% always be cheaper than a VPS
The bigger question is if you are able to port forward, and if your internet connection is stable, fast, and local enough for an enjoyable playing experience for your friends

The short answer is that is can be dangerous
The longer answer is that it probably wont bite you if you have your firewall and anti-virus enabled

Realistically, if someone wants to hack anyone they wont go port sniffing
And if someone wanted to hack someone with a minecraft exploit, they would go after a bigger server like hypixel, 2b2t, and not you

Its just important that you only open the port for minecraft, dont mess with anything else
